Bright Eyes – The People’s Key

March 2, 2011

Mr. Conor Oberst is back with his fellow Bright Eyes’ members for their 7th full length album, The People’s Key. This album’s sound is a bit different than all previous releases. On The People’s Key, the sound shifts away from the folk-ish sound & goes in more of a rock direction. It was good to see Conor changing it up & doing something different than some of his previous work. Not to say I didn’t like all of his previous work, but I always enjoy hearing a band evolve from their past.

I was one of many that caught an early preview of The People’s Key on NPR’s First Listen before it’s February 15th release. (also is Conor’s birthday) The new album has received many mixed reviews ranging from a 2 out of 5 to a 9 out of 10. Most of the reviews seemed to be generally favorable. If you are a fan of any of Conor Oberst’s music, I recommend that you give this album a listen. You shouldn’t be disappointed with what you hear.

I give Bright EyesThe People’s Key, 7.0/10
