Soft Metals – Lenses

August 10, 2013

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, the duo Soft Metals have just released their sophomore album Lenses. Hall & Hicks have just been making these past 2 albums on their own. I can best describe their sound as inspired by 80’s film soundtracks, minimal synth, & house music. Sometimes a song may lean more towards fitting in a certain genre more than others. I pulled this from their bio page via Captured Tracks:

“Soft Metals prefer to express themselves freely rather than adhere to a particular genre. This freedom gives them a diverse sound somewhere between dance music, austere synthetic pop, and experimental electronic composition.”

Hall has a beautiful voice & it meshes nicely with the electronic soundscapes that they create. If you are a fan of dark synthpop, such as bands from the label Italians Do It Better (Chromatics, Glass Candy), I suggest you give this album a try. I’ve been playing it constantly since I got my hands on it.

I was also lucky enough to be 1 of the 200 people to get a copy of the special edition vinyl. You can purchase Lenses through Captured Tracks, your local record store or digitally through iTunes, Amazon, etc.
